    Saturday

It was planned that we would sleep in today because of the long days we have had, but I took incredible liberties with this. The motel had a complimentary breakfast that everyone says was wonderful, but Ian and I didn’t show up. The prearranged time to meet in the lobby was 9:30 AM, but when the Luggs were still AWOL at 9:50 they came knocking and discovered us still in bed sleeping! Oh my. We quickly got ready and were on the road at 10:30. We visited the Rouen Cathedral, which has a rich history and is BIG. It is 168’ at the highest point inside. These cathedrals are all so high that you must bend your neck all the way back and lean a little just to see the ceiling, not just the highest part. There is no way to communicate the effect of these buildings on visitor because it is something that must be experienced, which is why we are here. Some interesting facts about this cathedral is that it has a Joan of Arc memorial and it contains the heart of King Richard the Lionheart (his heart was in Rouen). This building was not as endearing as the others, but was impressive. It was damaged by a bomb in WWII and they are still fixing and restoring things. We grabbed lunch at some wonderful vendors in Rouen (like we did in Bayeux) and at on the coach. We arrived late for our ferry at Calais but were able to catch the next one. Our loss was that we were not able to explore the castle at Dover, but we had a more relaxed evening at the hostel after enjoying a meal lovingly prepared by the chef. Mrs. Frisk , Mr. Sarr. And myself are enjoying this wonderful group of students as we get to know them better and they discover more about us.
